01.10.2010 The Island of Neuwerk Replaces its Leaking Drinking Water Pipeline
The cable laying company Christoffers from Wiefelstede near Oldenburg modified its machine park so that the installation of the nearly continuous connection to the island could be realised within a shortest timeframe. Over the entire 9-kilometre stretch and an installation depth of 4 metres in the tidal mudflat, just a single pipeline connection had to be made at sea. With an installation speed of 1200 metres per hour, the project was completed within three working days. read more
27.05.2010 Islanders receive a long drinking water pipeline
On Wednesday the works have begun in the mudflats near Sahlenburg to lay a new drinking water pipeline to the island of Neuwerk. A special trencher will bury the 9-kilometre long polyethylene water pipe 4 metres deep into the mud, all in a single operation. This way the disturbance in the ecosystem in the tidal mudflats will be minimal. The job should be done by next Tuesday. By Thomas Sassen, Cuxhavener Nachrichten. read more
